"When did you start getting Botox?"

It's one of the questions I hear most often.

My answer sometimes surprises people – I started Botox and pharmaceutical-grade skincare in my mid-20s. Not because I had deep wrinkles or wanted to look "frozen," but because I understood something that has shaped my entire philosophy on aesthetics:

It's much easier to preserve healthy skin than it is to restore it.

Healthy aging isn't about looking 25 forever. It's about looking like the healthiest, most refreshed version of yourself at every stage of life. At Therahaus Wellness Medspa, we focus on treatments that help you age confidently – not chase perfection.

Prevention vs. Correction: What's the Difference?

Think of your skin like your teeth. You brush and floss every day to prevent cavities. You don't wait until you need a root canal to start taking care of them. Your skin works the same way.

Preventative treatments help maintain collagen, minimize sun damage, and soften repetitive muscle movements before they become etched into the skin. Corrective treatments address changes that have already occurred, such as volume loss, deep wrinkles, pigmentation, or skin laxity.

Neither approach is "better." The right plan depends on where you are in your journey.

In Your 20s: Build the Foundation

Your collagen production is at its peak, but it actually begins to decline around age 25. This decade is the perfect time to invest in habits that will pay off for years to come. I always recommend starting with the basics:

  • Daily sunscreen (yes, every day!)
  • Medical-grade skincare with ingredients that actually make a difference
  • Antioxidants like vitamin C
  • Retinoids or other collagen-stimulating products when appropriate
  • Healthy lifestyle habits including sleep, hydration, nutrition, and not smoking

For many people, this is also when small amounts of Botox, Dysport, or Daxxify become beneficial. These treatments don't change your face – they simply relax the muscles responsible for expression lines before those lines become permanent. Less movement over time means less creasing, which often means needing less correction later.

In Your 30s: Protect Your Collagen

Your 30s are often when life gets busy. Careers, kids, stress, and sun exposure start to show up in your skin. You may notice:

  • Fine lines lingering after expressions
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Duller skin
  • Early volume loss
  • Slower healing

This is a great time to combine prevention with treatments that stimulate collagen. Some of my favorite options include:

  • Neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify) to soften expression lines
  • Sciton MOXI for early resurfacing and prevention
  • BBL HEROic to reverse sun damage and improve skin quality
  • Microneedling to stimulate collagen
  • Pharmaceutical-grade skincare tailored to your skin concerns

The goal isn't to look different – it's to maintain healthy, vibrant skin before aging changes become more noticeable.

In Your 40s and Beyond: Restore While Continuing to Prevent

As collagen and elastin continue to decline, we begin thinking about both prevention and restoration. This is where combination treatments truly shine. Depending on your goals, your treatment plan may include:

  • Biostimulators like Sculptra or Radiesse to rebuild collagen naturally
  • Sciton HALO laser resurfacing for texture, tone, and fine lines
  • SkinTyte to improve skin firmness
  • Dermal filler for strategic volume restoration
  • Neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify) to maintain smooth and natural movement
  • Pharmaceutical-grade skincare to support long-term skin health

Rather than relying on one treatment, we often layer therapies to address the different ways skin changes over time.

Don't Forget What's Happening on the Inside

Healthy aging isn't just about what we put on the skin. Hormones, nutrition, sleep, stress, exercise, and inflammation all influence how we age. For many women and men, hormonal changes can contribute to:

  • Thinner skin
  • Dryness
  • Loss of elasticity
  • Increased wrinkles
  • Hair thinning
  • Fatigue
  • Weight changes

When appropriate, hormone optimization can be an important part of an overall healthy aging plan. When your body feels balanced, your skin often reflects it.

It's Never Too Early… or Too Late

One of the biggest misconceptions in aesthetics is that if you didn't start treatments in your 20s, you've missed your chance.

Absolutely not.

I've seen incredible transformations in patients who started their skincare and treatment journey in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond.

The best time to begin taking care of your skin was years ago.

The second-best time is today.

My Philosophy

One of the reasons I love aesthetic medicine is that every patient is different. Some people want a simple skincare routine and a little Botox a few times a year. Others are interested in lasers, collagen-stimulating treatments, hormone optimization, or comprehensive rejuvenation. There isn't one "right" way to age.

My goal is never to make someone look like a different person. It's to help them look rested, healthy, confident, and like the best version of themselves.

Healthy aging isn't about chasing youth. It's about investing in yourself so you can feel confident in every decade.

At Therahaus Wellness Medspa, we're here to create a personalized plan that fits your goals, your lifestyle, and your timeline – whether you're just getting started or looking to restore years of sun damage and collagen loss. Because aging is inevitable.

Looking healthy while doing it is something we can absolutely work toward together.
