Starting neuromodulator treatments can feel like a big step, especially if it’s your first time. At Therahaus Wellness Med Spa, our goal is to make the experience feel simple, comfortable, and tailored specifically to you, so you leave looking and feeling like the best version of yourself.
Normally, your brain sends a signal through nerves that tells a muscle to contract (move). That signal uses a chemical messenger called acetylcholine – basically a “go” signal. We currently offer three neuromodulators: Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify. Each neuromodulator works by temporarily blocking the “go” signal at the nerve-muscle connection. When that message gets blocked, the muscle doesn’t fully contract. Relaxing the targeted muscle results in softened expression lines and prevents deeper wrinkles from forming over time.
Before Your Appointment: Consultation Comes First!
Your visit always begins with a consultation. We’ll talk through your goals, facial anatomy, and any previous aesthetic treatments. The most common treatment areas include:
• Forehead lines (raising eyebrows)
• “11” lines between the brows (frowning)
• Crow’s feet around the eyes (squinting)
Additional treatment areas include, but are not limited to:
• Bunny lines on the nose
• Nasal tip lift
• Brow lift
• Gummy smile
• Lip flip
• Downturned mouth corners (DAO corners)
• Chin dimpling (“orange peel chin”)
• Masseter (chewing) muscles for teeth grinding/clenching, TMJ-related tension relief, and facial slimming
• Platysma bands in the neck
• Neck and décolletage tightening/contouring with “microtox” techniques • Trap tox (“Barbie tox”) in the trapezius muscles for slimming and relaxation
Botox is even FDA-approved to treat chronic migraines and axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating).
The recommended dose depends on your specific anatomy, muscle strength, goals, and budget. We will also discuss the different neuromodulator options and decide which is best for you. While all three neuromodulators work similarly, they differ slightly in onset, diffusion, and longevity - so customization matters!
During the Treatment: Quick, Precise, and Comfortable
The actual injection process is very quick - often 10–15 minutes. Topical numbing cream is always offered before treatment for added comfort. Using a very fine needle, small amounts of product are placed into specific facial muscles. Most patients describe the sensation as a brief pinch or pressure, and discomfort is minimal.
After Your Appointment: What You’ll Notice and What to Avoid
You may notice small bumps at injection sites immediately after treatment - these are normal and typically resolve within 15–30 minutes. Mild redness or slight bruising can occasionally occur but is usually easy to cover with makeup. Some patients develop a
mild headache or tight feeling, which can be managed with over-the-counter Tylenol, rest, and hydration.
For the first 4 hours:
• Stay upright – avoid lying flat
• Do not rub or massage treated areas
• Avoid facials or facial massage
• Avoid tight hats/headbands if forehead was treated
• Do not apply makeup
For 24 hours:
• No strenuous exercise/workouts
• Avoid excessive sweating/saunas/hot yoga
• Avoid alcohol if possible (can worsen bruising)
Results begin gradually:
• 3–5 days: Early softening of movement
• 10–14 days: Full, visible results
The “Best Botox” Look Is Subtle
I believe that the best treatment is one that is not noticeable. The goal is never to change your face - it’s to refresh it. When done well, people won’t say “you got Botox.” Instead, they’ll think:
• You look more rested
• Your skin looks smoother
• You look hydrated and refreshed
That natural, understated result is always the goal!
How Long Do Results Last?
Longevity depends on the product used and individual metabolism: • Botox / Dysport: typically, 3–4 months
• Daxxify: can last longer in many patients, often extending beyond traditional timelines
We’ll help guide you toward the option that best fits your goals and lifestyle. A Personal Note
As a provider, I genuinely love neuromodulator treatments - not just for my patients, but for myself as well. I notice my skin looks smoother, my makeup goes on more easily, and I often feel like I need less of it overall. It’s a subtle enhancement, but one that makes a real difference in how refreshed you feel day to day.
